Biography
Arent van Wassenaer is an international construction lawyer, arbitrator, mediator, dispute board member and author based in the Netherlands. After more than three decades in private practice — including as a partner at Houthoff, Norton Rose Fulbright and Allen & Overy — he founded The Faithful Goose in The Hague in 2016, through which he advises on the successful delivery of complex projects and on the avoidance and resolution of disputes. He sits as an arbitrator with the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the Netherlands Arbitration Institute and the Dutch Board of Construction Arbitration (Raad van Arbitrage in Bouwgeschillen), and currently chairs or serves on Dispute (Avoidance) Adjudication Boards for major international projects, among them the OL3 nuclear power plant, the new European Investment Bank headquarters in Luxembourg, and a 2GW offshore AC/DC converter for TenneT. A Fellow of the International Academy of Construction Lawyers and a trainer for the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation, he is the author of A Practical Guide to Successful Construction Projects (Routledge) and a long-standing advocate of collaborative and cooperative models of contracting. He also hosts a Dutch podcast, “Bouwen met Vertrouwen” (Building with Trust”) which can be found on Spotify and Apple podcasts.
